Don’t Let Politicians Con You. KECOBO to artistes.

KECOBO Public advisory

The Kenya copyright board has adviced all artists who wish to work for or with politicians during the campaign season to be smart in their deals.

KECOBO executive director, Edward Sigei in a public advisory letter said that it has come to their attention that most creatives are either taken advantage of or did not know how to deal with political contracts especially during election campaigns. In the advisory, artists are advised to …..”be vigilant to ensure they earn a fair value for their work”

If you are at any point in the campaign period going to be engaged in working for any politician, be sure to sign a detailed agreement preferably in the presence of a lawyer, get a sizable deposit for any payments promised, or recieve the full payment as agreed before delivery of your products or services.

This will save you the stress of dealing with the politician afterwards, whether they win or loose their bid.
